NEWS: WonderRoot, Super Bowl Host Committee Launch “Off the Wall,” a Public Art Project of Atlanta’s Civil Rights and Social Justice Journey

As Atlanta begins to welcome the world’s attention for Super Bowl LIII, a series of new, community-driven artwork will begin to pop up all over the city. And there’s an opportunity for Westside residents to be involved!

Off the Wall is a city-wide initiative led by WonderRoot and the Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee that is taking place from June 2018 through February 2019. Through murals, media, and community conversations Off the Wall will share elements of Atlanta’s civil rights and social justice journey, elevating key stories and ideas present in our city’s pursuit of civil rights, human rights and a more equitable future for all Atlantans.

Integral community conversations allowing residents to share their stories and voice their perspectives will inform the content of the murals. Once all the murals have been completed, the collection will be turned over to the City of Atlanta to be included in the City’s public art collection. Additionally, while nine muralists have already been selected for the initiative, there is currently a selection process to identify and include one more Atlanta-area artist. Visit www.offthewallatl.org for more information on that process and how to get involved.
