Westside Land-Use Action Plan Recognized with Prestigious Design Award

On Friday, May 5, The Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) announced the winners of its annual Charter Awards, which celebrate the year’s greatest accomplishments in architectural, landscape, urban, and regional design.

Among those honored was Thadani Architects + Urbanists for its work on our very own Westside Atlanta Land-Use Action Plan.

The project, which was commissioned and funded by the City of Atlanta and the Westside Future Fund, was recognized for building on the history and tremendous potential of Atlanta’s historic Westside while focusing on measures to protect against displacement through the identification of prime areas for affordable housing and commerce.

The awards were announced at a ceremony culminating CNU’s annual Congress, a 4-day event that brings together as many as 2,000 people to discuss, debate, engage, and advance the principals of New Urbanism.

Dhiru Thadani of Thadani Architects + Urbanists and John Ahmann, executive director of the Westside Future Fund, attended the ceremony in Seattle to accept the award.

Regarded as the preeminent award for excellence in urban design, the CNU Charter Awards have honored a select number of winners and honorable mentions since 2002. This year, in addition to the Westside Land-Use Action Plan, CNU recognized 16 professional and student design projects across the United States and in Mexico, Spain, and South Africa.
