About the Westside Singing Ambassadors:

The Westside Singing Ambassadors is a gospel group featuring several talented musicians who call the Westside home. Charles “Charlie” Brown and Idus “Fatz” Parks are the co-founders of the group and are often joined by a rotating cast of guest musicians.

The group’s sound, a wonderful fusion of classic r&b, gospel and jazz, is captivating. During a recent performance at the Transform Westside Summit, Brown and Parks – joined by guest musicians, Rico Floyd, Eddie Leary, Kenneth Johnson and Dontae Perdue – expertly commanded the stage. Their versatile range and skillful arrangement of a classic Major Lance song which they serenaded to Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in tribute to her father, kept the audience enthralled. You can catch a replay of their performance here.

Behind the music, Brown has a lived a life full of pain and despair. He was incarcerated for 34 years at a state prison – spending the prime years of his life behind bars. His spiritual faith kept him grounded and is the source of his desire to help others from making the same mistakes. Charlie Brown credits his love of music for giving him purpose while in jail. Music combined with his faith led him to create the Westside Singing Ambassadors as a tool to build bridges with fellow residents, especially youth.
