WSBTV Features Westside Future Fund’s Yellow Store Acquisition

Westside Future Fund (WFF)’s recent acquisition of a well-known English Avenue property – formerly “Cantrell Sodas and Sundaes” and known colloquially as the “yellow store” was recently featured on WSBTV’s live 4 p.m. newscast. In the segment, which aired on Aug. 14, 2019, reporter Wendy Corona spoke with longtime resident Mother Mamie Moore and WFF President and CEO John Ahmann about what the property means for the neighborhood.

“[Westside residents] have a right to live in a healthy, sustainable community,” Moore said of her fellow English Avenue neighbors. “This is our business district.”

As WFF begins the process of restoring the yellow store, the organization will hold numerous community meetings for residents to share their thoughts and vision for the property.

“We wanted to acquire [the yellow store] to ensure that we could develop it in a way that supports the community vision for what these four corners ought to be,” Ahmann told WSBTV.
